Debunking Common Myths

Gymnastics is often mistaken as only a demanding and specialized sport that it can sometimes be daunting to know where to even start, so let's start-off by addressing a few common myths:

MYTH TRUTH
Gymnastics is only for girls Gymnastics is a world-wide sport where both men and women compete in national and international competitions and even at the Olympics!
You can only do gymnastics if you start when you are a baby Throughout Canada, introductory to advanced Gymnastics is offered to a variety of ages. At DDGC Your child can start as early as 18 months, but we also offer introductory classes or single-day classes for adults from time to time.
Gymnastics is only for hardcore athletes Our Recreational Pathway aligns with Gymnastics BC's "Gymnastics for All" philosophy and is geared to empower anyone who joins a class to learn healthy body control and enjoy the sport.
Gymnastics is perceived as dangerous Any sport can be dangerous, but only "Gymnastics is the single best way to develop safe body management skills" - Keith Russel, University of Saskatchewan.

General Information

There are two types of routes that your gymnast can pursue in Gymnastics with DDGC.

The Recreational Pathway  &  The Invitational Pathway
Available through online registration | Available through Head Coach invite only

Registration will typically begin one to two months before the start of any given season.

All services with DDGC (Classes, drop-ins, camps, birthday parties, invitational training programs for example) must be registered by an account holder through their account. This is the only way we can ensure that everyone has a fair and equal chance of getting into a program. We provide walkthroughs in the office and can show you how to use your phone or a computer to register. We always advise preparing before registration opens because we know some programs have high demand and can fill up within minutes.

Join our Weekly Updates in the quick links section above to stay in the loop; make sure to opt-in for email communications or we won't be able to reach you.

FAQs

What is Priority Registration

Priority Registration is an earlier time to register for those who attended the most recent season and requires a registration code.

Why don't you have waitlists for programs anymore?

In the past, we used waitlists for each program where families would be notified automatically but we found that, too often, technical difficulties would prevent families from being notified or even from registering for classes. We felt that the risk of families missing out completely was too high, and decided to find a better way to help families get a spot in classes as much as possible.

Now we use an email list called Waitlist Roundup!

Anyone can join this list, and we send out updates to those on this list when a class's capacity increases, or if we can open up additional classes. We can't guarantee that everyone will get a spot but if new information pops up about registration, those in the roundup will be notified asap!

After registration closes, we also give those on the email waitlist a final chance to register after class capacity and numbers have been assessed by our Head Coaches and administration, giving those on the Waitlist Roundup first pick in the final registration window.

Lastly, we process any withdrawals and transfers on Tuesday and Friday evenings, which means if families who haven't gotten a spot yet are looking for the best times to check in to the calendar, they can check into the registration calendar on these two evenings for the highest chance of success.

What if we want to get a spot after registration has closed or after classes have started?

Those who want to see if they can get in late can reach out to info@ddgc.ca and we will follow up with which classes have spaces. If there is a class with space that works for you, we will follow up with next-steps and late registration fees will apply ($25 per program). Please be advised that we do not provide discounts for late registrations and classes missed will be considered as absences. Late registrations are not guaranteed as an option from season to season depending on their length and will end within the first 4 weeks of the start of a season.

  • Why do you need to reach out in order to register late?
    • Before classes start, we send out information to prepare parents and gymnasts for classes and we will need to know to send you a separate copy.
    • Our club must manually update attendance, permissions, lesson plans, and more which takes time and extra resources.
    • An additional orientation session will need to be scheduled for the entire class so we try to coordinate and limit how many times this could impact each group.
    • It provides extra opportunities for you to ask questions.

As always, reach out to info@ddgc.ca if you have any questions at all, we are here to assist!
